More than 30 free walking tours and open-air exhibitions run across London this weekend starting Saturday 11 July.
Summer temperatures around 22C and longer daylight hours push residents toward outdoor plans that avoid ticket prices at paid venues. City data from Transport for London shows weekend Tube journeys to central zones rose 12 per cent last July compared with the prior month, reflecting demand for low-cost outings.
Hyde Park in Westminster opens its gates at 5am each day with the Serpentine Lake path offering a 3km loop past the Diana Memorial Fountain. South of the river, the South Bank stretch from Waterloo Bridge to Tower Bridge features free poetry readings at the National Theatre riverside terrace on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets hosts a free 10am tai chi session near the boating lake on Saturday led by local instructors. Greenwich Park opens its grounds without charge, where visitors can climb the hill for views of the Royal Observatory and follow the 2km perimeter trail marked by the Royal Parks signage. Both sites operate daily until dusk with no booking required.
Visit London statistics record that free parks and gardens accounted for 48 million visits in 2025, the highest share among all attraction categories tracked by the agency.
The British Museum in Bloomsbury stays open until 8pm on Saturday with free entry to the permanent galleries including the Rosetta Stone display. The National Gallery on Trafalgar Square runs a free 45-minute highlights tour at 11.30am both days, meeting at the Sainsbury Wing information desk. Advance online registration is not needed for either site.
Practical steps include downloading the Royal Parks app for real-time path updates and arriving before 10am at popular indoor spots to avoid queues. Sunday rain forecasts from the Met Office suggest carrying a light jacket for any outdoor segment.
